Carl's Doomsday Scenario

Spoiler enforcement
Full spoilers for Book 2. The training wheels come off. Dead women rain from the sky. Carl gets a nuke. If none of that sounds familiar, you haven't read it, and the AI is judging you.

The training floors are over

Floor 3 is the Over City: a 300,000 square kilometer ruined metropolis built inside a dormant volcano. Small surviving villages surrounded by vast urban ruins full of things that want to kill you. This is where the dungeon stops being a tutorial and starts being a slaughterhouse.

But first: class selection. Every crawler picks a race and a combat class. This is permanent. This defines how you fight, how you die, and how the AI mocks you in achievement notifications.

Carl becomes a professional anarchist

Carl picks Primal race — keeps his human body, takes a stat penalty, but can train any skill beyond normal limits. Then he picks Compensated Anarchist. Bomb-making. Trap-building. Social media manipulation. The "compensated" part means the system pays him to blow shit up. This is Carl's personality converted into game mechanics. The AI assigned it. The AI was feeling inspired.

Donut picks Cat (obviously) and Former Child Actor — a bard/rogue hybrid that lets her pick a temporary new class on every floor. This sounds ridiculous. It becomes one of the most versatile builds in the dungeon. Donut consistently picks classes that let her be the center of attention. This is character consistency.

Mordecai officially joins as their manager through Donut's class perk. We learn his backstory: originally a Skyfowl (eagle-headed humanoid) who chose Changeling as his race during his own crawl centuries ago. He took an Exit Deal — left the dungeon in exchange for indentured servitude. He's been forced to guide new species through the dungeon ever since. His form changes every floor. His exhaustion does not change. His exhaustion is eternal.

The Over City is a nightmare

An undead circus trawls through the ruins. Dead women rain from the sky. That's not a metaphor. Murdered women literally fall from the sky. The floor has an NPC population terrorized by Elite monsters who star in their own Syndicate TV shows. The production values of this dungeon are disturbing when you think about it, which is exactly what Dinniman wants you to do.

Katia Grim joins the party. Former art professor from Reykjavik. Doppelganger race — can reshape her mass but struggles with facial accuracy. Monster Truck Driver class. She is smart, capable, increasingly powerful, and she will become one of the most important people in Carl's life. Pay attention to Katia.

Carl builds a nuclear weapon by accident

Remember the soul crystal from Book 1? The one Carl grabbed out of a collapsing ritual and shoved into his inventory?

Miss Quill turns out to be the floor's real villain. Her husband Remex is an undead power source fueling a genocide spell. When Carl contains the resulting soul crystal explosion inside an enchanted glass box and pulls it into his inventory, it transforms into an item called Carl's Doomsday Scenario.

It is a city-leveling weapon. It is in Carl's pocket. Carl now carries a nuclear bomb everywhere he goes. The item is named after the book. The book is named after the item. Dinniman is not subtle about this. He doesn't need to be.

Status report: end of Book 2
Carl: Compensated Anarchist. Has a nuke in his pocket. Rising star of the show. Still in his underwear. Still hasn't processed anything.

Donut: Former Child Actor. Can pick a new class every floor. Fame escalating. Ego escalating faster.

Katia: In the party. Doppelganger. Monster Truck Driver. Will matter more than you think.

Mordecai: Ancient. Tired. Changeling. Knows everything. Says 40% of it.

Mongo: Growing. Still eating everything.
