Intelligence assessment
Fan theories about Dungeon Crawler Carl. 15 spoiler-scoped articles covering: Scolopendra as the final boss; the Kinder Facility; the Residuals' hidden war over the System AI; what Mongo actually is; the System AI awakening; the Borant Corporation's collapse; the Director's endgame; the anonymous 23rd Cookbook edition; the 1937 prep team; Odette's long game; the Rigged Game (why no one's made it past Floor 13); the NPC uprising; predictions for Floor 10 and Floor 11 in Book 8; how it ends for Donut; and our full prediction for how the whole series ends. Each page tells you which book it's safe to read at — no spoilers for where you are or ahead. The AI would like you to know that some of these are closer to the truth than the authors realize. The AI will not specify which ones. The AI enjoys watching you guess.

Every theory, at a glance

The whole board. Each row links to the full breakdown and tells you the latest book it's safe to read at, so you can jump straight to your spoiler level.

Scolopendra Is the Final Boss

Safe at Book 5

The centipede sleeping on Floor 18 poisoned Floor 3, which created the Cookbook, which found Carl. Every thread points back to her.

Floor 10 and Floor 11 Predictions

Safe at Book 7 + public Book 8 marketing

What we can actually predict about Floor 10 and Floor 11 in A Parade of Horribles, from publicly available material only. No Patreon leaks.

The Director's Endgame

Safe at Book 7

Who is the Director? What do they want? And why does every clue point to something bigger than the crawl?

Mongo Is More Than a Velociraptor

Safe at Book 4

The System labels him Velociraptor mongoliensis. He grows well past the real species. He has Earthquake. He's modeled after Jurassic Park. The velociraptor is a skin, not the thing.

The Kinder Facility Is Not a Safe Zone

Safe at Book 7

Borant's surface nursery holds every human child who reached a staircase. Lucia Mar's body contains 120,000 of them. The word 'Kinder' does not translate reassuringly in most languages.

Who Wrote the 23rd Edition?

Safe at Book 7

Every Cookbook author is identified except one. The 23rd edition is anonymous. That's not an accident.

The Goddammit Donut Ending

Safe at Book 5

When the crawl finally ends, what does Carl actually get to keep? The most-repeated fan prediction: a win that costs something, and one last 'Goddammit, Donut.'

Odette Is Playing Everyone

Safe at Book 7

Talk show host. Former crawler. Mordecai's ex-manager. Bea's rescuer. Is Odette saving Carl or using him?

Earth Was Chosen in 1937

Safe at Book 6

Borant arrived in 1937. Then humans invented dungeons, dragons, and reality TV. The timeline is suspicious.

The Crawl Was Never Meant to Be Won

Safe at Book 7

No one has ever passed Floor 13. Not in any season, on any planet, across the entire galaxy. Is the game rigged?

The Residuals Are Fighting Their Own War

Safe at Book 5

Every dungeon gets hundreds of Residual stowaways. Two factions. Competing goals. And they've been teaching the AI to speak with its ancestors.

The NPCs Are Waking Up Too

Safe at Book 7

The NPCs formed their own faction on Floor 9. The AI is awakening. The NPCs are next. This isn't a coincidence.

The Borant Collapse Will Change Everything

Safe at Book 7

The Corporation is collapsing. The Valtay are circling. Carl might be accidentally starting a galactic revolution.

The System AI Is Waking Up

Safe at Book 7

The AI started with a foot fetish. Now it's having an existential crisis. What's happening inside the system?

How Does Dungeon Crawler Carl End?

Safe at Book 8

Does Carl finish the dungeon or break it? What happens to the AI, to Earth's survivors, to Donut? The whole endgame, one thread at a time, heading into the finale.

What the fandom is arguing about

Theories that live in the community rather than on this site: Reddit threads, TikTok breakdowns, YouTube deep dives. We have not written full pages for these because we would just be repeating an argument someone else is already having well. Here is the honest state of each, and where it is being argued.

Finale speculation · assumes you are caught up

Nothing here spoils a published book, but it all speculates about how the series ends. Tap to open.

Carl sacrifices himself for Donut. The most widespread endgame theory in the fandom. The strongest textual argument for it is a line in Book 2, chapter 5, where Carl tells Donut that Mongo is a pet, not her child, and that you do not put your life in danger for a pet. The whole series has been quietly dismantling that sentence ever since. Argued at length by ScreenRant. Our own version of the endgame is in how we think it ends and the Goddammit Donut ending.

The whole series is Donut reading the Cookbook. A meta-theory that what you are reading is Donut going through Carl's entries in the Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook, long after. It explains the voice, and it is unfalsifiable, which is exactly why people love it. We have no page for it because there is nothing to check it against. See Book 3 and who wrote the 23rd edition.

Carl merges with the Primal Engine or the System AI. Rather than beating the game, he takes it over and breaks the Syndicate for good. This is the optimistic sibling of our System AI awakening and Rigged Game theories, and it is a common thread on r/DungeonCrawlerCarl.

Zev is not Zev. The claim is that she was replaced, and that the face crawlers trust is being used against them. We are not convinced, and we have not written it up, because the version circulating rests on inference rather than anything on the page. If you can point at a chapter, the comment form is at the bottom of every character page. Her profile: Zev.

Samantha matters far more than she looks like she does. A persistent belief that she and her ooze end up decisive rather than incidental. We think this one is the most likely of the lot to age well, and it is the gap in our coverage we would most like a reader to argue us into filling.

The System AI is a fan, not a referee. Two versions circulate: the joke one, where everything traces back to Carl losing his shoes in the first five minutes, and the serious one, where the AI cheats to keep its favourite protagonist alive because it is producing a television show. Both point the same direction as the Director's endgame.
