DCC Cosplay & Convention Guide
Carl Cosplay
Carl cosplay is the easiest cosplay in fiction. The man fights through an interdimensional dungeon in his underwear and his ex-girlfriend's too-small pink Crocs. That's the costume. You're done.
Pink Crocs
The single most recognizable piece of DCC cosplay. Talon's too-small pink Crocs. At conventions, you will be recognized instantly. Other DCC fans will point. Photos will be taken. The Crocs are non-negotiable.
Boxer Briefs
Carl's entire wardrobe for most of the series. For convention-appropriate cosplay, wear them over shorts or leggings. Or don't. We're not the Borant Corporation. We don't make your decisions for you.
Fanny Pack (Inventory Bag)
Carl carries loot in an inventory system. At a convention, you need somewhere to put your phone, wallet, and badge. A fanny pack is both practical and in-character. Label it "Inventory" for bonus points.
Pedicure Kit (Weapon)
The System AI gave Carl an enchanted pedicure kit. Carry one as your "weapon" prop. Only real fans will get it. Those fans will lose their minds.
Princess Donut Cosplay
Two approaches: dress your actual cat as Donut, or dress yourself as a human-scale Donut.
For your actual cat
Cat Tiara / Crown
Princess Donut's tiara is her identity. A small pet tiara or crown is the single most important piece. Your cat will tolerate it for approximately 4 seconds. That's enough time for the photo.
Cat Cape
Donut wears a cape in the dungeon. A small pet cape completes the look. Combine with the tiara. Photograph immediately. Your cat's patience is a non-renewable resource.
Cat Backpack (Bubble Window)
Bring your cat to the convention in style. A bubble-window cat backpack lets your Donut survey the floor like royalty. Warning: your cat will receive more attention than you. This is accurate to canon.
For yourself (human-scale Donut)
Mongo Cosplay
Velociraptor Plushie (Carry-Along)
Carry a velociraptor plushie as your companion. Tuck it under your arm or strap it to your backpack. Simple, recognizable, and it won't eat anyone's booth display.
Inflatable Dinosaur Costume
An inflatable T-Rex/raptor costume is the maximum-effort Mongo cosplay. You won't be able to sit down, use your phone, or navigate crowded aisles. Mongo wouldn't care. Mongo eats aisles.
Group Cosplay: The Party
The full DCC party cosplay is the holy grail. Here's how to assemble it.
Person 1
Pink Crocs, boxer briefs (over shorts), fanny pack. Optional: pedicure kit. Easiest costume in the group. Hardest character to play at a convention without getting cold.
Person 2
Cat ears, tiara, cape. Or bring an actual cat in a bubble backpack. The person playing Donut must commit to being imperious for the entire convention. This is not optional.
Person 3
Inflatable raptor costume OR carry a velociraptor plushie. The person playing Mongo should periodically attempt to eat things that are not food. Props, badges, other people's cosplay accessories.
Person 4
Black cat ears, dark formal wear, and an expression of profound exhaustion. Mordecai's costume is "tired cat mentor who has seen too much." Carry a clipboard and look disappointed at everything.
Convention Calendar 2026
DCC has broken out of the LitRPG niche and into mainstream convention culture. The official TTRPG launches on BackerKit April 14, Playmates toys arrive around July, and the fanbase is showing up in force.
Gen Con 2026
July 29 - August 1, Indianapolis. The biggest tabletop gaming convention. With the TTRPG launching in April, expect Renegade Game Studios to have DCC demos, exclusives, and events. This is the one.
San Diego Comic-Con 2026
July 23-27, San Diego. With the TV show in development (Universal + Seth MacFarlane's Fuzzy Door) and Playmates toys launching around July, there's a real chance of a DCC panel or preview.
Other Conventions
Dragon Con (Aug 28-Sep 1, Atlanta), New York Comic Con (October, NYC), PAX West (Aug/Sep, Seattle). DCC fan meetups are increasingly common at major conventions. Check the DCC Discord for coordination.
Convention Survival Gear
Portable Phone Charger
Convention floors are a dungeon for your battery. Don't die on floor 3 because your phone went dark.
Compression Socks
You'll walk 20,000+ steps at Gen Con. The System AI wants those feet healthy. Fun patterns keep it on-brand.
Collapsible Water Bottle
Stays flat when empty, clips to your bag. Convention dehydration is a real debuff. The AI reminds you that even crawlers need water.
