A Parade of Horribles: Book 8 FAQ
Release and format
When does Book 8 come out?
May 12, 2026. Kindle, Audible, and hardcover all release on the same day. This is the confirmed final date, not tentative. The book has already been through early reader releases on Dinniman's Patreon and is in final edits with Ace Books (Penguin Random House).
What is the full title?
A Parade of Horribles. It's Book 8 in the Dungeon Crawler Carl series by Matt Dinniman.
How long is Book 8?
704 pages, making it the longest book in the series. For comparison, Book 7 (This Inevitable Ruin) was around 600 pages. The audiobook length hasn't been officially announced yet.
Who narrates the Book 8 audiobook?
Jeff Hays through Soundbooth Theater, the same narrator for all previous books. No guest narrator has been announced for Book 8 (Book 6 featured Patrick Warburton). Full audiobook guide.
Is Book 8 on Kindle Unlimited?
Yes. Like all DCC books, it will be available on Kindle Unlimited at launch. You can also purchase it individually on Kindle or pre-order the hardcover from Ace Books.
Is there a hardcover?
Yes. Ace Books (Penguin Random House) is publishing the hardcover. They've published hardcovers for Books 1-4 and 6-7 so far. Shop page.
What to expect (spoiler-free)
What floors does Book 8 cover?
Floors 10 and 11. This is the first book since Book 6 (The Eye of the Bedlam Bride) to cover two floors. Explore all dungeon floors.
What happens on Floor 10?
Floor 10 is a racing format. Crawlers race from point A to point B with vehicle-based mechanics and upgrades between rounds. If you come in last, you die. It's described as deceptively simple, which in DCC terms means it's going to be anything but.
What happens on Floor 11?
Floor 11 is described by the System AI as "a coming-out party for the ages." Nobody, including the showrunners, fully understands what that means. This is the most mysterious floor in the series so far.
What about the glitches?
The system glitches that have been escalating throughout the series reach a critical point in Book 8. They're described as occurring "with increasing frequency." This connects to the System AI awakening theory and the broader question of whether the dungeon itself is breaking down.
What's Carl's plan?
The official description says Carl has "a plan so dangerous, so insane, he can't even consult his friends lest the AI put a stop to it." We don't know what it is. The Book 7 ending set up several threads: the spider in his chest, the 120,000 children on Lucia Mar, released gods, Katia's situation, and the Borant Corporation's collapse. Book 7 recap.
What are early readers saying?
Dinniman posted all 98 chapters on Patreon for early readers. The Goodreads consensus so far: the first three-quarters are a slow build (the racing format), then the last quarter does something that made multiple reviewers type "What the f***." That tracks for Dinniman.
Catching up
Do I need to re-read the series before Book 8?
You don't need to, but Book 7 ended with a lot of moving pieces. At minimum, read the Book 7 recap. If you want the full refresher, start from Book 1 and work through all the recaps. They cover every major event, character, and plot thread.

Is Book 8 the last book?
