Who dies in Dungeon Crawler Carl Book 7?
None of the core party dies. Carl, Donut, Mongo, Mordecai, and Samantha all survive Book 7. Katia does not die — but she leaves the dungeon permanently via the Orchid boon, losing body parts in the transformation back to human form. She is alive, and gone. Mongo nearly dies on Floor 9 but is saved by Rend (Sir Rendlegore), Carl's new pet. Many allied and enemy characters fall during the 30-day Faction Wars on Floor 9, which has permanent death enforcement — no respawns. Full detail in the Book 7 recap.
The Faction Wars
What are the Faction Wars in Dungeon Crawler Carl?
The Faction Wars take place on Floor 9, the largest floor in the dungeon. Nine armies, each sponsored by wealthy alien factions, battle for control of the castle Larracos over 30 days. About 32,000 crawlers start the floor, where any army can conscript them. Carl's side adds just over 50,000 retired crawlers; the other teams split about 150,000 hired mercenaries. Deaths are permanent on this floor — no respawns, no loopholes. Carl commands one of the nine teams.
What happens with the NPCs on Floor 9?
For the first time in the entire history of Dungeon Crawler World — across every season, on every planet — the NPCs form their own independent tenth faction. They were never supposed to be self-aware. They were never supposed to organize. Nothing like it has happened in the dungeon before. Does Katia die in Dungeon Crawler Carl?
No. Katia does not die. But she leaves. Because of the Crown of the Sepsis Whore, only one of Katia and Donut could descend past Floor 9. The resolution: Katia consumes the Orchid and accepts a boon that lets her leave the dungeon entirely. She's turned back into a human but is missing body parts. She's alive and out — but gone from the party. Carl and Donut continue without their closest ally.
Does Donut die in Dungeon Crawler Carl?
No. Princess Donut the Queen Anne Chonk does not die. The Crown curse is resolved by Katia leaving the dungeon, not by either character dying. Donut is alive and continues into Book 8. She is still magnificent. She is still insufferable. She is still the #1 ranked crawler.
How does the Crown of the Sepsis Whore curse get resolved?
Katia consumes the Orchid, a special item that allows her to accept a boon to exit the dungeon entirely. The curse meant only one of the two could descend to Floor 10, so one of them had to leave. Katia chose to leave. She's transformed back into a human, missing body parts, but alive.

The Faction Wars conclude. Katia leaves the dungeon. Carl and Donut descend toward Floor 10. The epilogue drops several bombshells: a former crawler named Justice Light broke open the Nothing, the prison for banished gods and demons. The galactic power structure is fracturing. What is the spider in Carl's chest?
At the end of Book 6, Carl acquired a spider embedded in his chest, connected to Shi Maria (the Bedlam Bride — a demigod with a woman's head on a giant spider body). This is NOT resolved in Book 7. Carl carries it into Book 8. What the spider does, what Shi Maria wants, and how it affects Carl is one of the biggest open questions heading into A Parade of Horribles.
What happens to Lucia Mar in Book 7?
Late in Book 7, it's revealed that roughly 120,000 human children, held in a facility on the surface, may die if Lucia Mar dies. It recasts the dungeon's relationship with Earth's survivors. This revelation is NOT resolved in Book 7 — it's left as an open thread heading into Book 8.
Does Mongo die in Dungeon Crawler Carl?
No. Mongo nearly dies in Book 7 but is saved by Rend (Sir Rendlegore), Carl's new pet. He also becomes a father during the Faction Wars. Mongo is alive heading into Book 8. He is still eating everything. SKREEE.
Does Carl die in Dungeon Crawler Carl?
Not through Book 7. Carl is alive at the end of Book 7. He has come close to dying multiple times but has not died. When and why does Katia leave Carl and Donut?
In Dungeon Crawler Carl, Katia leaves twice. At the end of Book 4 she splits off to lead her own group on the sixth floor, and in Book 5 she formally leaves the Royal Court. In Book 7 she is back beside them on the ninth floor, as a general in Donut's Princess Posse.
She leaves the dungeon itself near the end of Book 7. When Emberus threatens to destroy the floor, she eats the orchid and takes the boon that sends her to the surface, where she can protect the children there. That also lets Donut descend. The scene is in the Book 7 recap.
What floor does Book 7 take place on?
In Dungeon Crawler Carl, Book 7, This Inevitable Ruin, covers the ninth floor: Faction Wars, where armies fight to capture the castle at the centre of the city of Larracos. It is the largest floor in the dungeon. Book 6 covered the eighth floor, and the seventh was skipped entirely.

How did Katia end up with the Crown of the Sepsis Whore?
In Dungeon Crawler Carl, Katia never chose to wear it. In the Book 5 epilogue, after the Butcher's Masquerade, she kills Eva, who had been carrying the regenerated crown on her armour. Dying, Eva pulls it free and it equips itself on Katia's head. Because Donut wore it first, only one of the two can go down to the tenth floor. A hat from Katia's sponsor would have blocked it, but she had given that hat to Carl.
In Dungeon Crawler Carl, Justice Light is the skyfowl former crawler who wrote the eighth edition of the Dungeon Anarchist's Cookbook, back as a mercenary running the Princess Posse's traps. At the end of Book 7, as Emberus burns the ninth floor, he stays behind alone and drops a fairy trap and a demon trap into a permanent portal to the Nothing, built from the Gate of the Feral Gods' winding box.
Four planes fold together, the Nothing drains into deeper floors, and Scolopendra, the dungeon's final boss, wakes. Justice Light dies there. The floor he did it on is covered in the Floor 9 guide.
Who wins the Faction Wars, and how many crawlers survive?
In Dungeon Crawler Carl, the Princess Posse wins Faction Wars at the end of Book 7. That is the crowdfunded team Carl and Donut field on the ninth floor, reinforced by just over 50,000 former crawlers. Within hours of the start, every other attacking army joined a truce against the Posse, and the Posse still knocked out the Prism Kingdom, the Blood Sultanate and The Dream.
20,221 crawlers survive to reach the tenth floor, out of 32,429 who started. In a usual season, fewer than 1,000 get that far. The armies and the battlefield are in the Floor 9 guide.
Why did Donut eat the Ring of Divine Suffering?
In Dungeon Crawler Carl, Donut swallows the ring at the end of Faction Wars in Book 7 because Carl gives it to her, despite the hold it has on him. He had used it since Book 5 and had refused her plea to throw it away. Her knee pads give her the Iron Stomach skill, which destroys magical items she eats, so Carl counts the ring as destroyed.

What level is Carl at the end of Book 7?
In Dungeon Crawler Carl, Carl reaches level 81 on the ninth floor in Book 7, up from level 73 at the end of Book 6. Midway through the floor his base stats pass Donut's and he takes over as party leader, until she wins the job back late in the book.
