Book 8 of Dungeon Crawler Carl by Matt Dinniman. A Parade of Horribles covers Floors 10 and 11 -- the racing floor, the coming-out party for the ages, and the longest book in the series at 704 pages. Narrated by Jeff Hays. Releases May 12, 2026.
The setup
Floor 10: races. Get from point A to point B. Don't come in last. After each race, pick an upgrade for your vehicle and the track gets more challenging. It all seems a little too normal, a little too simple.
Ignore those strange glitches that are occurring with increasing frequency.
Don't listen to those whispers about what's happening on the mysterious eleventh floor, something the System AI calls "a coming-out party for the ages." Nobody -- not even the showrunners -- knows what that means. Just that the AI has ominously dubbed it "a coming-out party for the ages."
Everything is fine, Crawler. We repeat, everything is fine.
What we know (pre-release)
- 704 pages (the longest book in the series)
- Covers Floor 10 AND Floor 11
- Vehicle-based racing format with upgrades between rounds
- Increasing system glitches
- The AI has plans for Floor 11 that nobody -- not even Borant -- understands
- Carl has a plan of his own. "It's a plan so dangerous, so insane, he can't even consult his friends lest the AI put a stop to it."
- Direct Dinniman quote: "The stakes are higher than they've ever been. No. The stakes are higher than they've ever been."
The characters we're following in
Carl, Donut, Mordecai, Katia, Mongo, Lucia, and Prepotente all enter this book at the end of Book 7's Faction Wars. Their states coming in are not good. If you need a refresher before launch, the Book 7 recap is spoiler-safe forward and the Where Was I tool will surface the right catch-up for your last-read book.

Book 8 early readers are already leaving reviews. The consensus on Goodreads so far: the first three-quarters are a slow build (the racing format), then the last quarter does something that made multiple reviewers type "What the fuck. What the fuck????????"
That tracks for Dinniman.
