What We Collect
This site uses Google Analytics to understand how visitors find and use the site. This includes standard analytics data: pages visited, referral sources, general geographic region, device type, and browser. We do not ask for accounts. The only places you type anything are the comment and feedback forms, the optional email sign-up, and the fan creations form for sharing something you made, all described below.
The achievement system stores which achievements you have unlocked in a cookie in your own browser. That data stays on your device and is not sent to us.
Microsoft Clarity
We use Microsoft Clarity to see how people use the site: where they tap, how far they scroll, and recordings of sessions, so we can fix pages that confuse people. Clarity uses first- and third-party cookies. Microsoft collects this data and also uses it to provide Microsoft Advertising, as described in the Microsoft Privacy Statement. We do not run ads on this site and do not use Clarity data for advertising. You can block these cookies in your browser settings.
Comments and feedback
The comment and feedback forms are handled by Netlify Forms. When you submit one, Netlify receives what you typed (the name or alias you chose and your message) along with standard technical details such as your IP address and browser. We read submissions and publish some of them; published comments show at most a first name and last initial, never an email, IP address, or full real name. If you want a comment removed, leave a note through the same form.
Email updates
Some pages offer an optional sign-up for email updates. When you sign up, Netlify Forms receives your email address, the page you signed up on, and standard technical details such as your IP address and browser. We use your address only for what the form promised: Book 9's release date and other big Dungeon Crawler Carl news, a few emails a year. We never sell it or share it with advertisers.
Before we send the first email, we will move the list to an email service, name that service on this page, and every email will carry an unsubscribe link. To remove your address at any time, use this form. It is private and never published, and we delete every address it receives before any email goes out.
Fan creations
The fan creations form lets you send a photo of something you made. Netlify Forms receives the photo, everything you typed (title, story, the credit name and links you chose, your email or handle), and standard technical details such as your IP address and browser. On most phones and computers the page shrinks your photo and removes its location and camera data before sending it. Netlify stores the file with your submission, and links to it appear in Netlify's dashboard, notification emails and exports. Netlify does not describe those file links as private, so treat an upload like a photo you emailed us.
A person reviews every entry; nothing is published automatically. If we publish yours, we make new copies of the photo with its location and camera data removed, and show only those copies, your title and story, and the credit name and links you chose. Your email is never published. Your consent answers are kept in a private review record, not on the site. After review we delete the submission from Netlify; Netlify does not say how quickly a deleted file stops loading from its direct link.
Sending an entry does not hand over ownership: you give us permission to show it here with your credit, and we claim no rights to it. To have an entry removed, or to withdraw one we have not published, use report a problem; for consent, safety or copyright we take the entry down first and check second. Once a photo has been published anyone can copy it: we can remove it from this site and ask search engines to drop it, but we cannot recall copies. Text typed into these forms is masked in Microsoft Clarity recordings.
Votes and polls
The fan vote, page polls, and theory reactions store anonymous counts in Google Firebase. To stop one person voting many times, Firebase gives your browser an anonymous ID; it is not tied to your name or email. Your own picks are also remembered in your browser's local storage so the page can show them back to you.
Amazon affiliate links
As an Amazon Associate, this site earns from qualifying purchases. When you click an Amazon link, Amazon may set its own cookies to attribute the purchase. Amazon's use of that data is covered by Amazon's privacy notice, not this one.
Cookies and browser storage
This site uses cookies for:
- Analytics (Google Analytics) to measure traffic and usage patterns
- Behavioral analytics (Microsoft Clarity) for heatmaps and session replay
- Achievements in a first-party cookie, and votes and the dismissible banner in your browser's local storage
We do not run ads on this site. Microsoft's own use of Clarity data, including for advertising, is described in the Clarity section above.
Third-Party Services
This site is hosted on Netlify. Fonts are loaded from Google Fonts. Icons are loaded from a CDN. Each of these services may collect standard server logs (IP address, request time, page requested). We do not control their data practices; refer to their respective privacy policies for details.
Data Sharing
We do not sell or rent your personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers. Service providers hold it only to run the site: Netlify stores comment, feedback, email sign-up and fan-creation submissions, and the analytics services above receive usage data. Analytics data is used solely to understand how the site is used and to improve it.
Your Rights
If you are located in the EU, UK, or California, you have the right to request access to, correction of, or deletion of any data associated with your visit. Beyond analytics, the only personal data we hold is what you chose to type or upload into a comment, feedback, email sign-up or fan-creation form. To have your email address deleted, use the removal form in the Email updates section above or, once emails go out, the unsubscribe link in any of them. If you believe otherwise, contact us and we will respond within 30 days.
