Overview
Floor 2 is themed around a Rev Up pyramid scheme -- a multi-level marketing operation complete with Karens, moonshine, and enemies with "the Taint." It's absurd. It's also lethal. The floor timer is shorter than Floor 1, and the crawlers who made it this far are thinning rapidly.
This is where Carl and Donut start appearing on the intergalactic shows. Odette's After Hours, Death Watch Extreme Dungeon Mayhem, and the Maestro's show all feature the Royal Court. Carl appears on Odette's show wearing toilet-paper underwear. Odette notes this definitively disproves a certain sex tape.
Key events (non-spoiler)
- Mongo adoption: Carl adopts Mongo from a reward room. Mongo must bond with a crawler before the floor collapses. In a frantic final sequence, Donut saves Mongo and the bond is sealed. The velociraptor is now Donut's pet. Donut did not ask for a velociraptor. Donut now cannot imagine life without one.
- The Ralph incident: The entire dungeon shudders when Carl crushes a frenzied gerbil named Ralph with his bare foot. The AI is... physically affected by this. This is the first major hint that the System AI's relationship with Carl's feet is not a joke. It is becoming something else.
- The Enchanted Pedicure Kit of the Sylph: Carl receives a foot care kit that makes his feet invulnerable but requires him to stay barefoot permanently. The AI gave him this. The AI is very pleased about this.
- Show appearances begin: Carl and Donut become known quantities across the galaxy. The ratings system activates. Fame becomes a resource and a target.
Why this floor matters
Floor 2 is where DCC shifts from "dungeon survival story" to "reality TV show about dungeon survival." The show-within-a-show layer adds corporate politics, sponsor dynamics, and audience pressure on top of the physical danger. By the time you leave Floor 2, you understand that surviving the dungeon is only half the challenge. The other half is surviving fame.
It's also where Mordecai begins operating as guild hall manager, setting up the alchemical and strategic infrastructure that keeps the party alive for the next seven books.

The AI is listening. Comments are reviewed and published periodically -- solo operation, not a sentient dungeon AI. Yet.
